No matter where you are, you can pamper your taste buds with selected delicacies in Šaleška Valley. When you visit the Coal Mining Museum, you’ll experience a genuine miners’ lunch in a dining hall set 160 metres underground. This unforgettable is provided by Velenje Underground, with a top-class four course menu prepared by a team of chefs from cosmopolitan restaurant Vila Herberstein. Šaleška Valley has many restaurants with excellent chefs.
At tourist and excursion farms, or at a beekeeper’s, you can taste domestic dishes and local specialities whilst looking at fallow deer, mouflons and painted beehive panels.
When you visit the wine tourist road, you’ll cheer with wine, and discover local beer when hiking in the countryside. Don’t miss the excellent chocolate delicacies served in cafes and pastry shops.
The Promenade of Flavours is a culinary market with over 20 gourmet food and beverage providers. Twice a year, in June and September, in the open-air kitchen in the beautiful atmosphere of the Velenje promenade, you can taste the delicious gastronomic surpluses prepared by chefs from the region and the rest of Slovenia.
Beach Food Festival – a market of fresh summer culinary delicacies delights fans of modern cuisine’s rich flavours. It smells delicious all the way to Velenje beach, where the Pljusk into Lake Velenje event is usually held at the same time. A variety of dishes from all over Slovenia are available. Beer fans will be delighted by the availability of kraft beers, and fans of premium wines and other refreshing beverages will also get their money’s worth.
The Šalek Beer Festival was organized for the first time in 2015. More than 3,000 people attended the event throughout the day, making it a very pleasant diversification of events in the old town of Šoštanj. We will be presenting the culture of drinking beer as well as the increasingly popular boutique microbrewery in Slovenia at the event. Several smaller and unique breweries have sprung up on the Slovenian market in recent years, brewing beer according to their recipes.
The Šalek Wine Festival’s mission is to promote Slovenian wines and local cuisine, as well as the culture of wine drinking. The festival is for anyone who considers wine to be a business, a passion, or a love. With it, we hope to pay tribute to Slovenian winegrowers and visitors who value the efforts of winegrowers and winemakers, as well as to demonstrate the diversity and quality of the precious drop.
