Gril’s Homestead

The entire property is a cultural monument of local significance. The cottage which also has an open fire kitchen and an outbuilding is surrounded by a meadow, kitchen and herb garden, an apiary, a vineyard and an orchard.

It is believed that the cottage was constructed in the mid 19th century as a small vinedresser’s house on a viniferous slope of Lipje and Vinska Gora. Towards the end of the 19th century the vineyards were destroyed by the wine louse and these vinedresser’s houses erected on small property became small farms. It is at this time that an outbuilding was added to the house.

One side side of the house, which is partly built from brick and mortar and partly from timber, leans onto the slope. An open fire kitchen, the hall, the main room, and “štiblc”, have all been well preserved as has the wine cellar. Today the house is one of a very few relatively well preserved examples of vinedresser’s heritage in the area of Vinska Gora.

The Gril Farmhouse used to be a vinedresser’s cottage and has been turned into an organic museum located on the once vinegrowing slope of Lipnje near Velenje. The cottage, which is located only 6 kilometres from Velenje, is open to visitors from 1 May to 30 September, Friday to Sunday, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. or by prior arrangement for groups.
A guided tour of a group takes about one hour.

The museum shop offers a wide selection of organic products and products made at the Gril family home and local associations.
