An unusual triangular tower, Šalek Castle’s remains, still marks the entrance to Šaleška Valley. To the west, the valley is protected by the picturesque Kamniško-Savinjske Alps; to the east, the mountain range of ancient Pohorje; and towards the south, the valley meets Posavje Hills, from where the River Paka flows, where you find attractive lakes. Mining changed the landscape and shaped the character of the towns and villages which inspire visitors with their intertwining of unusual industrial heritage and greenery.
